WAR BONDS A Memorial Day event for veterans and all Americans.
Saturday - May 17, 7:00 pm Tickets $15 with a discount for veterans.
A musical journey through a war that
redefined the world. This multi-media living history cabaret is
interspersed with personal letters from the front and headline news of
the period. The production is a warm reminiscence and a harrowing
reminder of a time when the whole world seemed upside down.
Award winning artists David zum Brunnen and Serena Ebhardt fill the
stage with wartime memories and tunes. Actual veterans stories create a
sentimental journey back through the days when blackouts and rationing
were a small sacrifice in order to obtain freedom. A time when Rosie the
Riveter discovered she could take care of herself; a time when
African-Americans, who were segregated at home, integrated abroad to
became heros; and when a man's only wish was to be home for Christmas.
WAR BONDS: The Songs and Letters of World War II explores the dark side
of war and the strange juxtaposition of the light hearted, popular tunes
of the time. Musical Director, Julie Florin recreates a nostalgic score
of familiar tunes. Twenty-two songs of the period lift the mood -- even
as the atrocities of war are described. This family show allows the
"greatest generation" to celebrate, as the next "greatest generation"
contemplates. All veterans will be honored.

At the 14-year mark, Blue Highway is indisputably
one of the most esteemed and influential groups in contemporary
bluegrass. The band's eight exceptional albums and compelling live
performances give proof to the stellar reviews, Grammy nominations, and
numerous awards earned by the band since it first took the stage on
December 31, 1994. With a deep bench of virtuosic songwriters, vocalists
and instrumentalists, Blue Highway's hallmark is an unwavering
commitment to the ensemble, the “democracy of the band” that makes Blue
Highway a powerhouse.
Individually, Jason Burleson (banjo, guitar, mandolin), Rob Ickes (Dobro),
Shawn Lane (mandolin, fiddle, vocals), Tim Stafford (guitar, vocals),
and Wayne Taylor (bass, vocals) are masters of their respective roles.
Together, in Stafford's words, they are “a democracy in the best sense
of the word”: five gifted artists selflessly merging their talents into
a seamlessly brilliant group sound. As a result, the band moves from
strength to strength, more mature and impressive with each new album.
Blue Highway has five gifted writers in its ranks. Rob and Jason turn
out the heart-pounding instrumentals, while Shawn, Tim and Wayne give
Blue Highway a depth of songwriting talent unprecedented in sixty years
of bluegrass bands.
With eight highly-acclaimed albums to its credit, Blue Highway has
garnered two Grammy nominations, a Dove Award, topped the Bluegrass
Unlimited radio charts, and won numerous International Bluegrass Music
Association awards. Refusing to coast on past glories, Blue Highway
continues to push its music to new levels of accomplishment. Artfully
balanced between tradition and innovation, it remains in the forefront
of contemporary bluegrass music.

The
third week of September, 1978, was marked the beginning of
an era, the formation of THEFANTASTIC SHAKERS, known as
the "South's Finest Show Band." Since the inception of the
band, the have performed over 6,000 engagements including
over 400 wedding receptions, 700 conventions, and clubs too
numerous to mention. They have performed from New York to
Florida and all throughout the Southeast. South Carolina's
Grand Strand has become the band's summer home and their hit
single "Myrtle Beach Days" catapulted The Shakers to the top
of the Carolinas musical groups.
This
combination of experience and longevity has allowed
THE FANTASTIC SHAKERS to
possess a level of versatility few other groups can match.
With five lead vocalists and up to three horns, they can
perform almost any style of music from up-tempo dance and
rock to the smooth easy listening for the more subdued
occasions. The music is GREAT but what sets
THE FANTASTIC SHAKERS apart
is the personality of the group. From start to finish every
performance becomes a PARTY! The fun starts at the first
note and doesn’t stop until the last. A performance by
THE FANTASTIC SHAKERS is not
just a party, it is an EVENT!
Through these years, there have been many memorable
engagements, including featured performances at the Grand
National Dance Championships in Atlanta, GA on three
occasions, the Lincoln Center in New York City (Hot Summer
Nights Dance Fest), and the American Bop Association
Convention in Cincinnati, OH on two occasions. This exhibits
their appeal outside the Carolinas. Also, there have been
performances with many national artists including the Beach
Boys (for WBT Radio’s 50th anniversary), the
Kingsport, TN Funfest with KC and the Sunshine Band and
appearances also with the Four Tops, Jan and Dean and many
more. WBTV was proud to host Spring Fest with The Shakers
three different years with over 70,000 people in attendance.
Forty thousand fans have attended the Carolina Beach Blast
in Carolina Beach Festival with THE FANTASTIC SHAKERS as
headliners. The Shakers were host to the grand opening of
the Men's Apparel Mart in Charlotte with Vice President
George Bush as special guest. There have been many other
special appearances such as the gubernatorial inauguration
with SC Governor Carroll Campbell. The list goes on and
on...
The Shakers have won many awards through the various beach
music awards associations through the years. This list
includes two-time show group of the year, three time album
of the year, and lead singer Bo Schronce has been named male
vocalist of the year on four different occasions as well as
induction into the Hall of Fame.
This Shakers' carry a state of the art JBL P.A. that is
powered by over 16,000 watts of QSC amplifiers. The lighting
system features 16,000 watts of power controlled by NEL
multiplex controllers. An ultraquartz spotlight is used to
highlight the floorshow. This flexibility allows them to
accommodate any size event from a small reception to a large
outdoor event.
So,
you say "what makes The Shakers different?" Personality!
Fun! Charisma! From start to finish, an engagement with
THE FANTASTIC SHAKERS is one
big party. Don't misunderstand, the music is great, but The
Shakers are here for you to have a good time. The boys will
